I've never done one of these before, but I see people do them all the time, so I thought I'd give it a go.
The Story Siren hosts a weekly meme where bloggers can share what they've purchased/received this week. I don't technically have a "mailbox", and I get far fewer books in the post than I buy, but still...
This week, I've supposedly been on a book diet, since my budget took a bit of a hit, and I have SO MANY books I haven't read yet. But I made the fatal mistake of going into Blackwell's with a book-crazy friend yesterday, and ended up finding some really excellent stuff.
- A copy of Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes for £1. This is one of my favourite SF reads - so sad - and although we already have a copy at home, for that price it was silly not to get my own :)
- A new copy of Travelling Heroes by Robin Lane Fox, who is just about the best Classicist ever. I'm seeing him on Wednesday, and given that my original copy of this is a) hugely ripped, because it was in the cheap-damaged section of Blackwells, and b) at home because my dad is reading it, I bought a new one, and hopefully, I can get it signed.
- Day Boy Colours by Harold Avery. This looks like a fun, typical schoolboy romp. Avery's usually a good name to take a bet on.
-Full Circle: How the Classical World Came Back To Us by Ferdinand Mount. I've been meaning to read this for ages, and it was in the 3 for 2 with Travelling Heroes. Not going to say no! I started it last night and it's really interesting!
(-Also in the 3 for 2, I bought The Lost Books of the Odyssey for Emily.)
- A really old book of ballads. This isn't actually from Blackwell's, but the Oxfam bookshop - I love proper old ballads, and this has the most complete selection of Robin Hood ballads I've seen.
I'm attempting to keep off Amazon at the moment, but I've been frantically adding things to my wishlist and oh my, I wish I had more money. There's just so much I want to read at the moment. Can't wait to get home and to the library.
